This presentation highlights case studies where single-family homes have been converted into small assisted living facilities in Texas. The presenter will focus on the challenges of meeting state licensing regulations; locally adopted fire, building, and zoning standards; and negative neighborhood reactions. The presenter will explain the advantages to neighborhoods of having healthcare staff awake 24/7 on their street and allowing aging neighbors to remain in the area close to their friends, churches, and other community activities. These neighborhood group homes are as varied and affordable as the wide variety of neighborhoods found in any city.
